“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” The 13th amendment was ratified to end/abolish slavery. It prevents everyone from holding slaves. The thirteenth amendment is also the first amendment to mention/discuss slavery. Because of this, slavery was no longer aloud within the U.S. |
